The Poetry Place
October 25 @ 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
The next edition of The Poetry Place is on Sunday October 25th at 4pm, when Dawn Gorman will be welcoming guest poets Martyn Crucefix and Maria Jastrzebska, plus the usual mix of local and further-flung contributors to the open mic, this time including Pratibha Castle, Jill Sharp, Eileen Anne Gordon, Ray Fussell, Mark Wynne, Chaucer Cameron, Anna Saunders and Stephen Payne. Among other things, these poets will explore the perfection of the moment – whether it is a caregiver taking a breather under an apple tree; spotting the mundane waymarkers on a familiar journey; or a kiss, unintended and memorable, under ‘a canopy of skies’.
Martyn Crucefix’s recent publications are Cargo of Limbs (from Hercules Editions, 2019), These Numbered Days, translations of the poems of Peter Huchel (from Shearsman, 2019) and The Lovely Disciplines (from Seren, 2017). He blogs regularly on poetry, translation and teaching at martyncrucefix.com
Poet, editor and translator Maria Jastrzebska came to the UK from Poland as a child. The True Story of Cowboy Hat and Ingenue (from Cinnamon Press/Liquorice Fish 2018) is her fourth full-length collection. She co-edited Queer in Brighton (from New Writing South 2014). You can find out more about her work at mariajastrzebska.wordpress.com
The Poetry Place is a monthly poetry magazine programme bringing you news, views, readings and interviews from today’s poetry community, both locally and further afield. Presented by Dawn Gorman and Peter O’Grady, it brings inspiration and food for thought for everyone, from those who enjoy listening to the occasional poem, to people writing and publishing their own work.
